This novelist from the middle of the 20th century won the Jnanpith Award for his work in 1973. The most notable instances of his substantial work are Dadi Budha, paraja, Amrutara Santana, and Aphanca. Along with the Padma Bhushan in 1981, the Soviet Land Nehru Award in 1970, the Sahitya Akademi Award and Oriya Sahitya Akademi Award in 1993, the Fellowship for Creative Writing in Oriya by the U.G.C. in 1979, and the D. Litt degree from Sambalpur University in 1976, he has also earned several honours. His well-known pieces include Paraja, Danapani, Laya Bilaya, and Dadi Budha have been translated to English. He translated Tolstoy’s War and Peace and Togore’s Jogajog to Oriya.
